Music Booster Philosophy

    DP Instrumental Music Boosters supports all instrumental music programs at Dos Pueblos High School, which at this time includes Marching Band, Color Guard, Drumline, Jazz, and Orchestra courses. We are here to work together to help all of the instrumental music groups succeed. The vast majority of funds are donations from Dos Pueblos families. We rely on these donations to provide the foundation for a quality music program for all DPHS students. Financially, this means that funds are raised as a group to provide assistance to all courses. An advantage of being a large booster group is that it allows us to put on larger fundraisers so we can raise money more efficiently. Some of our major expenses for the instrumental music program are instructor compensations, competition fees, transportation, and District equipment/instrument maintenance. Music Boosters sets support targets for each course based on budgeted and anticipate expenses for that course on a per student basis.

    School district funding requires average class sizes to fund teachers and programs and the instrumental music program is no exception.  Long gone are the classes with less than 32 students! Instrumental music courses with low enrollment are currently allowed because there are other courses that enroll students in much larger numbers than a regular classes. In the aggregate, the combined music programs enroll sufficient numbers to offer all the courses. In 2007, we were successful in lobbying for the creation of an orchestra program that would be offered during the same class period as the beginning jazz class and because the Booster group was willing to commit to fundraising for an orchestra instructor. Today the orchestra class has strong enrollment and continues to cooperatively compliment the beginning jazz band enrollment. Together, both classes are viable in the eyes of the District.

    We hope you can assist us in keeping the DPHS Instrumental Music Program successful. The fact always remains that whatever amount we are able to raise will determine the quality of the instrumental music program.
