The Dos Pueblos Concert Band provides an opportunity for instrumental music students to learn many different aspects of music ranging from classical traditional pieces to modern contemporary compositions. Students are encouraged to play the instrument they are most skilled at, however there may be an opportunity to switch and learn a new instrument needed in the ensemble such as: oboe, bassoon, french horn, or tuba. The Dos Pueblos Concert Band includes students who have played in the marching band, the jazz band, orchestra, solo musicians, and more. A minimum skill level of ability to play Class C High School concert band music is required.
For the school year 2019-2020 a highlight is that the Concert Band will be traveling to perform at the New York Wind Band Festival held in Carnegie Hall, New York City. Nearly 100 students have signed up for the band (the largest ever). The class will be year long during period 5 and students must enroll for the entire year, fall and spring. The focus of the class this year will be preparing for the Carnegie Hall performance in March of 2020. The band will be learning challenging new works by composers John Mackey, Michael Markowski, Charles Young, Randall Standridge and others. Concerts, shows and festivals throughout the year highlight the progression of student musical learning. This year's performances include a December Holiday Concert(s), New York Send-Off Concert in February, New York Wind Band Festival at Carnegie Hall in March, the Santa Barbara City College Band and Orchestra Festival in May, and the end of year Instrumental Music concert in May. This promises to be a banner year for the concert band and performing onstage in Carnegie Hall will surely provide some lifelong memories.
